The book depicts the state of Aquaculture in the homogenous fertile alluvial plain of the middle-Ganga valley with special reference to the district of Patna, which also comprises the flood-prone areas of the rivers Ganga, Sone and Punpun. These areas have adequate wetlands, the most suitable land for Aquaculture; yet, the potentialities available in the region have not been optimally exploited and developed. Considering the prospects of Aquaculture in relatively less developed areas of the country, the author seeks to highlight such geographical conditions as obtained in the region of Patna which are most suitable and, as it were, tailor made for the development of the various stages and aspects of Aquaculture. The idea is to motivate and inspire such section of the population which is excessively dependent on agriculture without being able to generate sufficient income, to indulge in this alternate and related field of Aquaculture and generate additional incomes merely by utilizing the hitherto under-utilised wetlands available to them in the region. \n \nThe book is based on a doctoral dissertation of the author entitled, Prospects of Aquaculture in Patna district : A Geographical Study, submitted in the faculty of Science, Magadh University, Bodh Gaya. As the book deals with the various aspects of Aquaculture, it would be useful and instructive for the students and scholars of different disciplines, for Geographers, Zoologists and Planners the present work will be particularly relevant and helpful.
