Urban development and planning is concerned not only with the physical improvement of the urban areas but also improvement of the quality of life both from individualistic and community points of views. The immense social and economic costs of urbanization is manifested in chaotic urban growth. Slums, blights overcrowding, congestion, insanitation, trafic and housing problems and scarcity of basic amenities, goods and services are the problems faced by almost all the urban centres of the country. The unplanned urban development has resulted into growing unemployment and under employmen in towns and cities throughout India. The towns of Manipur, including Nambol, too present acute problems of urbanization manifesting the miseries of human living. \nThe present study highlights the problems of urban development of Nambol town, located centrally in the picturesque Manipur valley in North-East India.
